Backlinks, also known as inbound links, inlinks, incoming links and inward links, are incoming links to your website.

There are many benefits to having backlinks.

The more links (backlinks) a website has redirecting to it, the more authoritative and popular search engines see it. This results in your website climbing the search engine rankings (SERPs). We all all aware that higher rankings is the goal of business website owners.

When visitors to a website is reading something and they see your link, they will usually click that link and visit your website (assuming it interests them). This migh lead to new customers or sales for your company. It will increase the number of visitors to your website and increase your popularity ranking with search engines.

If you have a specific page that is very relevant to the topic where the backlink appears, you should link to that page instead of our home page. For example, if you are on an construction blog, you should link them back to your construction page (assuming you have one)

Another approach is to create an independent splash page used only for backlinks. This splash page is designed to catch the attention of a human visitor through use of a large graphic, a Flash movie, or some other technological item. From the splash page, visitors can click on other pages of your site.
